PixelDev is a pixel-art game editor and publishing site made for kids and the grown-ups who help them. This page says what we collect, what we do with it, and what we do not do. Plain language on purpose.
Who we are
PixelDev is operated by Colton Chesnut (“we”, “us”). Contact: hello@pixeldev.app.
Who this is for
Children use PixelDev. Adults sign in, publish, and help. You can open the editor and play published games without an account. An account is needed to sync projects across devices, collaborate, and publish.
What we collect
- Account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We store your Clerk user id, a username, an optional display name, and an avatar URL. Email stays with Clerk; we may use it once to suggest a username, then we do not keep it in our database.
- Projects and publishes. Games you save to your account, and games you publish (title, description, cover, playable files), live on our servers so you can open them later and so other people can play what you publish.
- Play counts. We count plays of public games.
- Live rooms. Joining a multiplayer room needs a short display name. Guest joins do not require an account. Room membership is for the session; we do not keep a permanent guest profile.
- Moderation. Public names and published game text are screened. A grown-up reviews games before they appear in the public catalogue.
- On your device. The editor keeps local copies of projects and a few preferences in your browser’s storage so work is not lost when you are offline or signed out.
- Errors. We use Sentry so crashes can be fixed. We turn off session replay, we do not ask Sentry for personal details by default, and we strip request bodies and similar payloads before anything is sent — a child’s game and the name they typed should not ride along in an error report.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not run third-party advertising trackers on PixelDev.
- We do not use product analytics suites (no Google Analytics, no similar panel).
- We do not use your games or chat-like room names to train public AI models.
Cookies
Signed-in features need a session cookie from Clerk. That is how we know it is still you. We do not use advertising cookies.
Companies that help us run PixelDev
- Clerk — sign-in
- Vercel — hosting and game file storage
- Neon — database
- Cloudflare — live collaboration rooms
- Sentry — error reports (scrubbed as above)
Each of those companies only gets what they need to provide that service.
Children
PixelDev is built for kids: public text is screened, published games are reviewed, and error tooling is set up so private game content is not spilled into logs. We do not ask children for more personal information than the product needs. Parents and teachers who create accounts for a classroom should use contact details they control.
If you believe a child has given us information that should not be here, email hello@pixeldev.app and we will look into deleting it.
Keeping and deleting data
Account and project data stay while you use PixelDev. You can delete games you own. To close an account and ask us to remove what we hold about you, email hello@pixeldev.app. Some records (for example abuse reviews) may be kept as long as we need them for safety or legal reasons.
Changes
If this page changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top. Keep using PixelDev after that date means you are okay with the updated policy.
